The Servant Initiative is a meshing of 40 years of experience through combining servant leadership based on biblical teaching, learning how to easily yoke with Jesus, and experiencing an outflow of His rhythms of ministry and leadership in our lives. So, buckle up and put yourself or leadership team on the path to apprenticing Jesus and living out of Him!
All sessions can be done in online Zoom gatherings, retreat or conference style, small groups, and in team leadership development settings.

ME AND MY
​SHADOW

We are all shadowed by an illusory person or false self, Thomas Merton says; We devote ourselves to this false self, which is the root of sin. Our Shadow Self wants to live outside of God’s will. It’s a self that’s built on lies like “I can make myself happy... I can make myself great... I can be my own master... I don’t need to depend only on God's love.” 
The Shadow Self is an imposter ego that hides from us and our God-created and Christ-redeemed self. Our true self is meant to be loved and transfigured in the light of God’s glory. We discover this in the radiant face of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).

BECOMING A 
FOOT WASHER

As He calls His rag-tag team of unconventional leaders together only hours away from the Cross, the commandment He gives them is not a commandment to be more zealous, more dedicated, more cultural, to be more polished or refined, or more committed. The commandment He stresses so emphatically is that they love each other, for by this, He would say, all men would truly know they were His disciples (John 13:35). Before He gives this teaching to them, however, Jesus sets the stage by being an example for them as He washes their feet. And in the example He sets for His disciples, I see four key factors which, I believe, will help you and me to carry out the commandment to love one another.

THE POWER OF
​THE UNDER ROWER

The word huperetes is one of the more unusual words for servant in the Greek language. The word huperetes means under-rower. The word originally referred to a rower on board a trireme or a war-galley. It later came to refer to someone who performed hard labor. Paul used this particular word when he wrote to the Corinthian believers.

“So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God” (1 Cor. 4:1).

Jesus was the greatest net mender of all time! He blows apart every idea I have about spirituality and servant ministry. In so doing He sets us all free from the burdens and baggage of grumpiness and condemnation, of fear and intimidation. Revisit Jesus—this laid-back lover of people whose intensity was private and personal, who didn’t put pressure on people. Reacquaint yourself with the Friend of sinners, the Man who spoke gracious words continually, who healed unconditionally, who loved sacrificially, who was the great net mender—for although He is unrecognized by most religious people, He alone defines what it looks like to live in holiness and at the same time be a servant to all!
