BUCKET LIST EXPEDITION.
This Event is private and by invitation only! It is tentatively being for September 13th-28th, 2025. I am planning this trip for myself, as a reward for making it in this life and the fact that I will never be able to retire! I am also, factoring in many other personal achievements such as; my graduation as a certified spiritual director, the success and ministry of "Wild on The Path, the restoration of my family. It is intended to be a spiritual journey of renewal and a sabbatical, spent with a soul friend. It is not like the our usual events in any way. Rather its purpose is meant to be a crescendo of everything that God has created me to be, to enjoy and the proclamation of the good things God has done! In the simplest terms that it can be articulated. It's just two grown ass men finally getting out to do something they only have dreamed of doing. Over the next year and a half we will be planning, saving, and dreaming this in as part of this expedition. May God help us!

Campground: Sunrise Motel and RV Park. $45 ea. The Sunrise Motel in Cedarville, California is a great place to stay. It is clean and quiet with reasonable rates. John and Susie Bunyard (owners) are very friendly and helpful. A beautiful setting in a small, quiet town near the Warner Mountains. We would split the cost of a room with two queen beds. This will be perfect for getting some miles in and acclimated to breaking into some longer miles over the next couple of days into the good stuff! Fuel: Fueling Points are available in Merrill, OR • Alturas, CA, • Cedarville. CA. Dinner: in Cedarville, CA. The Country Hearth Info: I know 10 days off work makes this a lengthy trip! There is really no other way to truly do a Bucket Trip and adequately cover the important scenic aspects of this trip. If this is not doable for anyone planning to embark on this expedition then it is important to decide early in 2024 because I would extend it even further to 3 weeks and possibly 4 weeks. Other considerations would be to only do what you can! Perhaps 10 days to go and return on your own. It would still be an epic trip! I will begin securing reservations for lodging and campgrounds in the Spring of 2024. It is important to get that much of a jump on them for availability. Highlights: The trip from Medford to Cedarville is a great and scenic Afternoon into evening ride! Departure Time: 4:00 pm • Medford, Oregon. Helpful Links: |
DAY 1Mileage: Total miles 524.0 mi.
Campground: Wheeler Peak CG. $10 ea. A stay at the Wheeler Peak Campground is a genuinely memorable experience. Shadowed beneath the hulking cliffs of Wheeler Peak and Doso Doyabi, a pair of Nevada’s true alpine monarchs, the views and campsites hover among the clouds. At nearly 10,000 feet in elevation your neighbors are Engelman spruce, mule deer and green meadows; your common distractions tumbling brooks and shimmering aspen leaves. A mile and a half up the trail will place you in the midst of the Wheeler Peak Bristlecone Grove, among trees so ancient that some have absorbed the fanciful hues of over a million sunsets. Fuel: Fueling Points are available in Fernley, NV • Fallon, NV • Eureka, NV • Ely, NV • Baker, NV. Dinner: In Camp. Info: Highlights: Taking a drive along the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is a highlight of any visit to Great Basin National Park. A true mountain road, the scenic drive hugs the mountains of the South Snake Range, slowly winding you to a point above all others, where vistas reach the horizon, and one is met with a pristine view of the rugged & harsh, yet beautiful, Great Basin Desert. Driving into the Clouds: Starting at the Park boundary on Nevada Highway 488, the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive takes you on a paved 12 mile, out and back road to an elevation exceeding 10,000 feet above sea level, to the face of Wheeler Peak. Along this 12 mile road, you will gain over 4,000 feet in elevation, and cross through numerous ecological zones, the equivalent of driving from Baker, Nevada, to the frozen Yukon, thousands of miles to the north. As you leave the Great Basin Desert, you will be amazed as to the diversity of life that lives just feet above the barren desert beneath. It is not uncommon to see mule deer, marmots, coyotes, and jackrabbits as you climb along the road. Info: Temperatures are sure to be cool for the evening we will plan to be up with the Sun!
